This past Saturday, May 2, 2015 Curls Studio participated in Free Comic Book Day at the Amazing Comic Shop in Fairfax, Virginia. There was a great crowd and excitement throughout the day. We were there from 10:30 AM until 4 PM. Thanks to everyone we met and thanks to the Amazing Comic Shop for hosting us — it was a fun day!

I always think that FCBD is the kickoff of summer — it happens the first Saturday of every May. The Kentucky Derby is also this day and there is usually a superhero movie opening that weekend as well — this year is Avengers: Age of Ultron. We also had the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight in the evening, so there was plenty to do this past weekend.

Our next appearance will be at Awesome Con on May 29-31 at the DC Convention Center. Hope to see you then. We’ll be updating the blog with information on what panels we’ll be on and our booth location in a map. Please check back here before the convention for the latest news.

Joe Carabeo and Carolyn Belefski from Curls Studio will be appearing at Amazing Comic Shop in Fairfax, Virginia this Saturday, May 2, 2015 to celebrate Free Comic Book Day. This shop is located in University Mall, across from George Mason University. It has recently been renamed and has been formerly known as Laughing Ogre Comics and/or Phoenix Comics.

The shop will be open from 10:30 AM to 8 PM, but I expect we’ll be there until 4PMish… so come early for us and for the best selection! Each family will be able to select five books from the free offerings this year.

The store will also have a sidewalk sale, live podcasting, cosplay, 501st Legion, and more!

Hope to see you there.

Illustration for Citizens of Natstown Project

I’ve recently provided illustration for Citizens of Natstown and their new project, “Every Nats Game’s A Story.” The feature enables fans to recall their memories and help tell the story of what it’s like to be a Washington Nationals fan. There are already many stories posted about personal fan experiences — and you can submit yours too.

I’ve been to three games within the past decade, but my main connection to Nationals baseball is walking the stadium for Team Cul de Sac during Moving Day (Parkinson’s Walk).
