Hello everyone,

Thanks for visiting the Curls webcomic site. I am hard at work on deadline to finish a eight page Black Magic Tales story, so there will be no Curls strips for maybe a week or so. I will make it up to you gals and guys somehow, but for now you can instantly partake in other exciting stuff available to entertain you…

You can:
• Read previous Curls comic strips in the archives
• Visit the Curls Studio Production Blog
• Listen to The Carolyn & Joe Show Podcast (updates every Tuesday)
• Look at a year’s worth of sketches in my Sketch Before Sleep project
• Follow me on Twitter @CarolynBelefski
• Like Curls Studio on Facebook

Thanks for your patience,
Carolyn

Shel Dorf Awards

Just wanted to take this moment to let everyone know about the Shel Dorf Awards.

Founded in 2010, along with the inaugural Detroit Fanfare, the Shel Dorf awards are dedicated to recognizing the comic industries best and brightest talents. Like Shel, another Detroit native, the awards are most concerned with the fan perspective, giving the fans unprecedented say in the nomination and voting process. The Shel Dorf awards proudly celebrate the best of our industry’s present while honoring the unique place that Detroit has in comic fandom’s past.

Detroit Fanfare will take place September 24-25, 2011 and they are now accepting submissions for the Shel Dorf Awards. I would greatly appreciate it if you took a moment to vote for me (Carolyn Belefski) and my webcomic Curls at www.sheldorfawards.com/submissions. Thank you.

Hey everyone! My comic Curls will be featured in the upcoming issue of Indie Comics Magazine.

NEWS RELEASE: CAROLYN BELEFSKI PRESENTS CURLS IN THE NEW INDIE COMICS MAGAZINE #3

Indie Comics Magazine #3 breaks the gender barrier with its first female contributor, Carolyn Belefski, announced Editor Gary Scott Beatty. Belefski will contribute a story based on characters from her popular Curls webcomic in Indie Comics Magazine #3, scheduled for preorder in Diamond Comic Distributors’ August 2011 Previews catalog and available ONLY through Previews.

Belefski was nominated for Friends of Lulu’s 2010 Kim Yale Award for Most Talented Newcomer. “We’re excited to land one of the hardest working and most talented women in independent comics today,” said Beatty.

Belefski displays a new Curls webcomic every Monday and Thursday and offends and/or entertains with her podcast, The Carolyn and Joe Show, each Tuesday. She collaborates with writer Joe Carabeo on the comic books Kid Roxy, Black Magic Tales and The Legettes.

Belefski’s illustrations have been published in USA WEEKEND Magazine, The Commonwealth Times, Magic Bullet, The Pulse on Comicon.com and more.

Each issue of Indie Comics Magazine features full stories from many independent comic book creators, said Beatty. Short biographies and contact information are included so readers can easily seek out more of the creators’ work. Enjoy Belefski’s blog, visit the Curls Studio Store, subscribe to her RSS feed and listen to her podcasts at http://curls-studio.com.

Indie Comics Magazine is 64 pages of the best story and art from today’s independent comic book creators. No huge overprint, no digital version, no back issue sales, August’s Previews under Aazurn Publishing is the ONLY way comic readers can get Indie Comics Magazine #3! Visit Indie Comics Magazine online at http://indiecomicsmagazine.com.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT: Tell Your Friends, Promote, Store Signing Opportunities…

Here is a promo poster for you or any comic or book shop to download: http://indiecomicsmagazine.com/icm3_store_poster.pdf.
It is set up for 11 x 17. For under a buck you can print a poster on a color copier. You have permission to print the poster and use it to advertise Indie Comics Magazine #3. Please do not alter the graphic. You do not have permission to sell this graphic in any form.

If we can all work to get a few of these into comic shops it could go a long way toward increasing readership. Now is the time to schedule end-of-October signings — if you are a store within 2 hours of Washington, DC, please email info@curls-studio.com to arrange a signing appearance.
