Carolyn Belefski creates and publishes original comics and illustrations. Carolyn writes and draws the comic strip\u00a0Curls<\/em>. She also collaborates with writer Joe Carabeo on the comic books\u00a0Kid Roxy<\/em>,\u00a0Black Magic Tales<\/em>, and\u00a0The Legettes<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In 2010, Curls<\/em> was nominated for the Friends of Lulu Kim Yale Award to recognize women in cartooning. In 2013 and 2014 Carolyn was voted Best Visual Artist runner-up for Washington City Paper\u2019s Best of D.C. awards.<\/p>\n

Carolyn became a National Cartoonists Society member in 2012, and is currently serving as a Washington, DC chapter board member. With NCS, she started “Cartoonists Draw Blood”<\/a> in Washington, DC by connecting with the American Red Cross, gathering local cartoonists, and organizing a blood drive where blood donors receive a sketch from a cartoonist. With the first two blood drives, we\u2019ve helped to save the lives of up to 120 strangers.<\/p>\n

Carolyn serves as editor-in-chief of\u00a0Magic Bullet<\/em><\/a>, Washington, DC’s comics newspaper anthology. She has edited and published issues 6-8 and is currently in production with issue 9, a Western themed issue. Magic Bullet has a print run of 5,000 and can be found at many east coast comic conventions and Washington, DC area venues.<\/p>\n

Beyond her self-motivated work at Curls Studio, Carolyn works professionally as a\u00a0designer in the Washington, DC region. Carolyn graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA degree in Communication Arts and Design. From 2007-2011, she volunteered her time to the design community through AIGA, the professional association for design, by serving on the AIGA DC Board of Directors.<\/p>\n

Carolyn has exhibited at New York Comic Con, Baltimore Comic-Con, Awesome Con, Small Press Expo, Pittsburgh Comic Arts Festival, Philly Alternative Comic Con, and many other comic conventions and art fairs.
